My Soul Purpose
Reviewed by LaTaurus Johnson – book by Richard Parrott
True purpose is given by God and can only be derived and cultivated in spiritual authenticity. When our heart is focused and centered upon hearing, we are able to truly hear from God. In order to be spiritually authentic we must be transparent with God about our fears, failures, falsehoods, trusts, commitments and potential. Richard Parrott’s “My Soul Purpose” offers an opportunity for readers to reflect deeply and enhance their relationship with God in an effort to understand the purpose of their existence.
Parrot opens with a provocative discussion of three principles of the “soul’s life:” stop running and be still, receive God into your fears, and what is important in life cannot be seen or touched. This sets the reader up to reflect upon a myriad of other compelling thoughts throughout the book. He focuses on protecting the intimacy of your relationship with God and your own personal uniqueness to allow God to work in and through you for His purpose, consequently allowing you to understand your individual purpose.
The book goes beyond the general concept of being created to worship and serve the Lord and dares to explore how we can truly seek to connect with and serve God from the depths of who we are. By God’s design, we are all created and gifted differently and it is our responsibility to understand how those differences can be used to serve the Kingdom. We must find out how we are wired and how that enables us to relate to God in an authentic relationship and with genuine communication. This, in turn, leads us to a life fully committed to God’s plan and purpose and a feeling that we are indeed fulfilling our true purpose.
